ÉLETRAJZ

Király Gyula 1927 január 26-án született Kisszántón (Santaul Mic, mai Románia). Középiskolai tanulmányait a debreceni Református Kollégium gimnáziumában, majd a hetedik osztálytól a nagyváradi Gozsdu gimnáziumban folytatta. A leningrádi Állami Egyetem Filológiai karán végzett (1953), az irodalomtudományok kandidátusa címet 1969-ben nyerte el. A debreceni KLTE BTK Orosz Filológiai Tanszékének tanársegéde, majd adjunktusa (1953-1960), a Moszkvai Lomonoszov Egyetem aspiránsa (1960-1964), az ELTE BTK Orosz Filológiai Tanszék egyetemi adjunktusa (1964-1968), egyetemi docense (1969-1992), címzetes egyetemi tanár (1993). A Moszkvai Gorkij Világirodalmi Intézet ösztöndíjasa (1975-1976). A Nemzetközi Dosztojevszkij Társaság (IDS) magyarországi képviselője (1977-1986), alelnöke (1983-1989.), tiszteletbeli elnökségi tagja (1990-től). A Filológiai Közlöny szerkesztőbizottságának tagja (1965-1995). 19-20. sz.-i klasszikus orosz irodalommal, elsősorban Dosztojevszkij munkásságával, irodalom- és műfajelmélettel foglalkozott. Jelentős eredményeket ért el az orosz regény tipológiai vizsgálatában, Dosztojevszkij regénypoétikájának és a regény elméletének kutatásában.

Dostoevsky v kontekste russkoj prozi XIX. veka – a moszkvai Világirodalmi Intézetben (az IMLI-ben,  az ún. „Gorkij Intézetben”) 1976-ban megvédett akadémiai doktori disszertáció kézirata, 300 oldal. Itthon “tudománypolitikai” okokra hivatkozva, jórészt azonban indoklás nélkül akadályozták a doktori cím elismerését, az ELTE csak 1993-ban adományozott egyetemi tanári címet Király Gyulának. Dosztojevszkij kisemberhőse.
